Adelaide Adrenaline make statement win while throwing a spanner in the works for AIHL Finals. From the bottom of the AIHL ladder, the Adelaide Adrenaline responded to a disappointing season in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 victory over the Sydney Ice Dogs on Saturday, August 2 at IceArena, Adelaide.

The result avenged Adelaide’s 5-3 loss to the Ice Dogs the previous weekend and gave the home side a timely boost as the AIHL season enters its closing stages.

Adelaide Takes Control Early

The goaltenders for Adelaide and Sydney, Jeremy Friederich and Ryan Burroughs, impressed early in the opening period. Both teams were creating chances, but the tenders were keeping the contest scoreless.

Up steps Adrenaline’s Coy Prevost as the ace up Adelaide’s sleeve in breaking down this stubborn defence and taking control. Prevost weaved past multiple defenders and beat Burroughs to break the deadlock and open the scoring. Steve Best then pounced on a rebound off Burroughs’ pads to double Adelaide’s lead before the first intermission.

Friederich Shuts Down Sydney

Sydney lifted its urgency in the second period and generated 10 shots on goal, but Friederich stood firm and denied every attempt to preserve Adelaide’s 2-0 advantage.

Prevost then struck again on the power play, with help from Friederich, to extend the lead and put the Adrenaline firmly in control. It was Jeremy’s first AIHL assist of his career.

Sydney’s Late Push Comes Too Late

The Sydney Ice Dogs needed a quick response in the third period, but Adelaide continued to dictate the tempo and made it difficult for the visitors to build any sustained pressure.

Joey MacDougall’s goal behind Sydney’s net stretched the Adrenaline’s advantage to 4-0 and left the Ice Dogs with a steep uphill battle.

Natan Vertes eventually gave Sydney a glimmer of hope with a well-taken goal, but by then the game had already slipped beyond reach.

Adelaide kept its composure in the closing minutes, and Austin Pickford put the result beyond doubt with an empty-net goal to secure the 5-1 win.

The victory gives the Adelaide Adrenaline valuable momentum heading into the closing rounds of the AIHL season, while the Sydney Ice Dogs remain under pressure to collect crucial points and keep their AIHL Finals hopes alive.

Friederich picked up the game puck for his maiden assist and the AIHL’s Australian Player of the Week awards for his stellar performance.
