AIHL.TV is back for 2024. The only place on the world wide web to watch sweet and glorious AIHL action this year. Subscriptions are open for purchasing, but if you want to know more, then you have come to the right place.

Hockey Hype Australia has you covered. Everything you need to know about AIHL.TV in 2024 is here.

When does the service kick off and what is the streaming link?

The service is planned to go live on 1 April 2024.  The link for streaming will be the same as last season, AIHL.TV. The square website is being used for payments only. The terms of service was publicly published on AIHL.TV from go-live on 1 April 2024.

What content will be available?

Every single AIHL game in Season 2024 will be available live and on on-demand. Don’t miss a single Scotty Timmins belter or Bert Malloy miracle on ice. This means all 150 regular season games plus all five Finals games are available.

If 155 games is not enough content for you, then all 135 2023 AIHL games will also be available for on-demand viewing. No matter which team you support, you will find hockey to watch.

What devices can I watch on?

Presently, AIHL.TV is available as an online platform. You can watch on your PC, tablet, phone or TV (via Chrome or Safari web browsers using Chromecast or Apple Airplay). The league has said it is working with its partners to deliver dedicated Apple iOS and Android apps. However, no timeline for the release of these apps has been revealed.

In a change from 2023, in 2024, you will be able to stream AIHL games simultaneously on two devices. In other words, two IP addresses. This means you can enjoy your team’s game on your TV, while simultaneously running your rival’s game on your mobile phone. Or, while your folks watch their team in the lounge room, you can watch your team on a tablet in your bedroom

How to watch AIHL games on your Chromecast enabled TV or device:

  • Open Chrome web browser on your phone
  • Navigate to AIHL.TV and log in
  • Select the game you want to stream
  • At the bottom of the stream there will be the Chromecast symbol > click the symbol and select your Chromecast enabled device
  • The AIHL game should load on your selected device and start playing

Is there geo-blocking and can I watch from overseas?

AIHL.TV is not geo-blocked in 2024 and the AIHL has no plans to introduce it. The league had over 2,000 subscribers from eight countries in 2023 and is excited to extend that further in 2024. Making AIHL action watchable from every corner of the globe encourages support to enjoy Australian hockey, no matter where it is from.

If you must travel overseas during the season, no worries, you can still tune in. If you are friends and family of a visiting player, check in on how they are enjoying life in Australia and the AIHL, its no problems at all. The league wants to make AIHL.TV easy to access and keeping it region free is a core part of delivering that.

Is there a try before you buy option?

Yes, there is, however, unlike other streaming services, it is not a set trial period once you sign up for the first time. Instead, the AIHL is adopting the ‘freebies’ model pioneered by Kayo Sports. During Season 2024, the AIHL will announce on their socials 10 ‘freebie’ games that will be free to watch. This will enable fans to try before they buy and is a good initiative to convince fans who are on the fence about purchasing a subscription.

If you are one of these fans who is on the fence, I recommend you keep on eye on the AIHL socials for a ‘freebie’ game to watch.

Who is powering AIHL.TV in 2024?

AIHL.TV in 2024 is being powered by Swedish company StayLive AB. This is a new arrangement for this season. The AIHL did not actively promote the new provider before going live.

The previous service provider from 2023, Clutch.TV, entered administration in late 2023. The service has survived administration but now has reduced capability, which is unsuitable for the AIHL.

I had speculated in pre-season that the league might choose to partner with Sportscast Australia, like the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) over the summer. They performed well with the AWIHL using a dedicated platform along with YouTube. However, the AIHL has chosen a different path.

The AIHL also chose not to actively promote the local production companies that will produce the AIHL.TV streams in 2024. Since go-live, four production companies have been used for the service in 2024. These are all returning companies from 2023, and include, Thought fox Media Group, ATC Productions, Spacequake Sports and Front Row Screens (FRS Sport).

Will we see an ‘Australian Hockey Night’ concept brought to AIHL.TV in 2024?

Sadly, not at this stage. The AIHL is focusing their attentions on improving stream quality and platform experience. However, the league has not ruled it out for the future. So, one day, maybe, we can all look forward to a panel show with a host and guests presenting a lineup of AIHL hockey games on a Saturday evening. Australian Hockey Night Live, it would be glorious.

We are working diligently with all our production members to improve the service from last season and ensure a consistent product is brought to fans in 2024

AIHL TV Pricing

Pricing is always a tricky subject since everyone’s circumstances are different. What might be value for one person, won’t be for another or will be out of reach for someone else. This is the same with ticketing memberships and sales.

Table 1 below provides details of the 2024 packages and prices:

PackagesPrice ($ AUD)
Annual Pass – Early bird sale$69.90 /year
Annual Pass$79.90 /year
Monthly Pass$29.90 /month
Single game – Live$9.90 /game
Single game – On demand$5.90 /game
Table 1: 2024 AIHL.TV packages and prices

Annual subscription pricing in 2024 is very similar to 2023. The early bird special and regular annual subscription pricing is $10 more in 2024. However, with the 20 additional games, the price per game remains roughly the same.

Table 2 below compares the per game pricing between 2024 and 2023:

Games watched2024 early-bird special2024 subscription2023 subscription2023 Introductory special
All games45c52c52c44c
All games for one team + Finals$2.00$2.28$2.26$1.93
All away games for one team$4.66$5.33$5.38$4.61
Table 2: per game pricing comparison

To access the early-bird special price, you must sign up to an annual subscription before the end of March 2024. From 1 April 2024, the special will end and regular pricing will commence. Update: the early-bird sale was extended to 5 April 2024 due to payment issues on the square website.

Of course, if you don’t want to commit to an entire season, there will be 10 free games and smaller paid subscription packages on offer. Monthly and single game options will be available as a cheaper buy-in to test the service or pay for specific events you are interested in.

By design, these shorter subscriptions are more expensive than the annual options. The league wants to incentivise a full season commitment by fans. This is not unusual for streaming services. The biggest price difference out of any subscription options is the monthly price. Monthly subscriptions have almost doubled compared to the 2023. If you chose that option last year, perhaps it is time to reconsider the other options this year. The full season is great value in comparison.

Will subscriptions automatically rollover next season?

Yes, your subscription will rollover next season with an automatic renew charge occurring annually. You can of course cancel your subscription at any time and if you don’t want it renewed, please make sure you cancel before your renew date.

To check your renew date, go to your user settings on AIHL.TV. Navigate to subscriptions & packages on the left-hand side menu. Your active package will be displayed. From here you can see the type, status and price of the package you have as well as the auto renew date for your package.
