AIHL Player Milestones Season 2024. Players are part of the lifeblood of hockey in Australia. It is high time we celebrate their ongoing milestone achievements as they hit the ice week in week out in the Australian Ice Hockey League.
In week one of the 2024 season, there were many headlines, goals and talking points including six important player milestones which will now enter into the league’s history books and fables and be passed down to generations to come.
Alec Stephenson: 200 AIHL Games
Sydney Ice Dogs’ veteran, Alec Stephenson, celebrated his 200th AIHL game last Sunday against the Canberra Brave. Playing in his 11th season with the Ice Dogs, Stephenson made his debut with the team back in 2012 and won the Goodall Cup with the Ice Dogs the following year in 2013.
Jordon Brunt: 100 AIHL Games
Jordon Brunt, of the Canberra Brave, registered his 100th AIHL and Brave game on Saturday night in Newcastle vs the Northstars. The 24-year-old Canberran began his AIHL career with his hometown team in 2015. He is looking to re-establish himself in the team after spending most of last season out injured. It may have taken awhile to go from 99 to 100, but Brunt recorded two assists over the weekend and is going from strength to strength.
Lliam Webster: 450 AIHL Points
Lliam Webster, the grandfather of the AIHL, enjoyed a stunning start to season 2024. He registered two goals and one assist over the weekend at the Icehouse in Melbourne against the Rhinos. That fine showing brought him up to his 450th AIHL point landmark, third on the all-time list. He’s now just 17 points behind Tommy Powell in second. Can Webster overtake Powell before the end of the season?
Tomas Landa: 350 AIHL Points
The Bears’ Tomas Landa notched up his impressive 350th career AIHL point over the weekend on one of the biggest stages in Australian hockey. The fact it was a win in front of a packed house at the Sydney derby made it all that much sweeter. A Czech born Australian international, Landa has enjoyed playing for the Bears and the Northstars during his time in the league. He first put the skates on for the Bears way back in 2007, when he registered 62 points in 25 games on the way to lifting the Goodall Cup.
Zane Jones: 100 AIHL Points
The newly landed West Coast boy, Zane Jones, may be adjusting to a new lifestyle and scene in Perth with the Thunder, but he got things off to a flyer on the road in Brisbane on the weekend. One goal and four assists got him to his 100 points milestone in style. He may have made a name for himself in the AIHL with the Newcastle Northstars, but the Thunder fans will be cheering him on this season as he looks to better his 47 point haul from last year. Who knows, perhaps the national team is on the cards in the near future.
Hayden Dawes: 100 AIHL PIM
Hayden Dawes may not have enjoyed the weekend in Melbourne against the Ice with his new team, the Central Coast Rhinos. However, he did achieve a personal milestone that I am sure will bring a wry smile to his face. 100 penalty minutes served in the box and counting. In fact, he is up to 103 to be exact and all this from five seasons and 59 games. Dawesy is now equal with the great Ray Sheffield and he’s hunting down Christin Pansino and Steve Best in the PIM standings.
We’re just getting started with AIHL Player Milestones Season 2024. Keep an eye out on who will reach key milestones next week and every game day week to come until the end of the season.
