Earlier this year in March, Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation (NZIHF) announced plans to incorporate a women’s series to the Trans-Tasman challenge. IHA has now announced dates and locations for the inaugural series.
Hunter Ice Skating Stadium in Newcastle, New South Wales, will host two games between the Aussie Flyers (Australia) and Ice Fernz (New Zealand) in October. The first game will begin Saturday, October 19 at 5:00 pm AEDT, and the second game will be Sunday, October 20 at 2:00 pm AEDT.

With the Trans-Tasman women’s series being played in October, it comes in the offseason of both countries’ domestic competitions.
The New Zealand Women’s Ice Hockey League (NZWIHL) commences this weekend (June 22) and will conclude mid-September. Australia’s premier women’s competition, the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League, will begin the first weekend in November.
New Zealand won the bid to host the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) 2025 Division II B Women’s World Championships. Dunedin will play host to the tournament from April 14-20, 2025.
With both Australia and New Zealand playing in the same group the series will be a good tune-up match for both sides and aid the selection process.
