Hockey Hype Australia Becomes Oz Hockey Media. A fresh look for a fresh year, welcome to Oz Hockey Media (OHM).
Don’t worry, the spirit of Hockey Hype Australia isn’t going anywhere. We still strive to bring you all the latest in Australian hockey and will continue to act as a positive voice for hockey in Australia.
Why the name change?
We were unsuccessful in obtaining a trademark for Hockey Hype Australia. We had the option to appeal the decision but were advised it would likely be unsuccessful due to the similarities with the Hype DC brand.
Then, Gordon left HHA, which, combined with the trademark issue, brought a natural moment to refresh the organisation and brand.
What can you expect from Oz Hockey Media?
OHM will continue to cover Australian hockey of different levels and disciplines in an unbiased way. Our coverage and content will range from quick and easily digestible to long-form in-depth analysis and opinions. We strive to provide quality over quantity content that hockey in Australia deserves. Our output will be determined by the size of the organisation.
We recognise that Oz Hockey Media is a part of a wider fabric that makes up the hockey community in Australia. We aim to be a constructive contributor and are happy to engage with others in the community to help build this sport we all love.
What is our mission?
To provide a platform where ice hockey in Australia across all levels can get independent exposure, capturing the amazing stories ice hockey has to offer. To promote Australia ice hockey through active, fun and passionate engagement with the hockey community.
What is our vision?
To play a role in growing the sport of ice hockey in Australia, to bring ice hockey into the Australian sporting mainstream, while encouraging others to do the same.
Who’s involved in Oz Hockey Media?
We are a small, dedicated team at OHM. We will release an expression of interest (EOI) to gauge the community to find like-minded people that would like to contribute and possibly join OHM in a voluntary basis. It would be fantastic to have voices from across the nation as part of our organisation.
Our current team:
Name | Role(s) |
---|---|
Sean O’Connor | President & chief graphic designer |
Ness Saros | Marketing & operations manager |
Courtney Kynaston | Social media manager |
Tristan Metcalfe | Chief statistician |
Lynda Holt | Para hockey expert |
Phil Taylor | Photography liaison |
Oz Hockey Media would like to welcome back Courtney Kynaston to the team. Country, a foundation member of HHA, has rejoined with a new role of social media manager. Courtney is a valuable hockey voice in Australia and brings a wealth of experience and skills to OHM.
Gone but not Forgotten:
On top of Gordon leaving and Andrew before him. We have had two other members of the organisation step back this year.
The amazing Abbey Richards, who was our social media manager and podcast producer, is unable to commit her time this year. She is pursuing other personal and professional growth opportunities, and we wish her the very best.
Eric Brook plans to enjoy a reduced hockey workload in 2025 with the closure of Macquarie Ice rink and the two Sydney teams taking the year off. Eric is one of the most recognisable voices in Australian hockey and his vast knowledge and insights will be missed. Enjoy the year Eric and thanks for all the hockey chats since you joined the organisation. Maybe you will have time now to increase your hockey sweater collection further.
Want to Get Involved? With the AIHL 2025 season fast approaching, we look forward to bringing you a range of content from across the league. If you’d like to get involved and be a part of the Oz Hockey Media Team, submit your expression of interest here: EOI form
