Undefeated Melbourne Ice have lost an important piece of their 2024 Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) team as Canadian import Josh Walt returns to Canada. Walt returns to his homeland for work related commitments.

Walt was a bright spark for the Ice between 2022-23 as the four-time Goodall Cup champions struggled on the ice. Walt was continuing to be a key piece in the Kerry Goulet system throughout the start of the 2024 AIHL season.

Putting up 10 points (five goals, five assists) Walt was a strong second line contributor for the Ice. The 27-year-old coming into the prime of his hockey career will be a significant loss for the Ice.

With the loss of Walt, the Ice will be looking to strength their roster. Additionally, the Ice are waiting on the arrival of talented duo Austin Albrecht and Roman Kraemer.

The Ice have continued their strong start to the season defeating the Brave in a shootout 4-3 to stay undefeated after seven games in the AIHL. The only team in the competition yet to concede a loss in regulation, overtime or shootout.

A return matchup with the Canberra Brave today awaits the Ice with a puck drop of 4:45pm.
